MUSIC TEACHING THE WAY IT SHOULD BE

Picture
Lessons are available Monday to Friday, 9.00 am to 9.00 pm and may  be taken weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or ad hoc.

Intensive courses can be  arranged.

Daytime appointments and limited evening times are available at present .

Tuition is offered on a one to one basis only. Group tuition is not offered as I  believe that it is of very limited value educationally. All ages from children  of primary school age are catered for.  I teach many adults, most from the starting point of absolute beginner.  I have a good rapport with children and in  particular have good communication with teenage students.  My exam result  history is excellent at all grades.

Teaching is at my fully equipped home  using professional instruments consisting of a new Yamaha Grand Piano, and a  large selection of professional quality guitars (Gibson, Fender, Ibanez,  Tanglewood, Yamaha and Taylor) for students to experience through high quality  Fender amplification.
Please note that these instruments are for student use at lessons only.

All styles are taught from classical to contemporary.   Each student is respectfully and carefully treated as an individual.  Many grade 8 and higher diploma students have been taught by me,  and several students have gone on to universities and colleges to study music, and some enjoy professional careers. I particularly encourage adult beginners to fulfill their life ambition to play a musical instrument.

As a musician with a lifetime of professional performance experience, I use that experience to encourage performance inspired tuition in a comfortable environment. I frequently hold student concerts and musical evenings for those who wish to perform, but if your tuition is simply to amuse yourself at home then that too is warmly encouraged.  In summary, my teaching style is always friendly, non-critical and encouraging.

If you are looking for lessons for a child, then I am very experienced in child tuition and proven to be child friendly.  Parents are welcome to sit in on any lesson if they wish

As an independent teacher I rarely take time off.  My teaching commitment is very important both to me and to my students, and only when circumstances of illness or personal needs arise will lessons be cancelled, and then where possible moved to an alternative time.  Lessons continue during school holidays by popular demand.  I never have and never will substitute a teacher in place of myself.  The teacher you engaged is always what you get!

I maintain a practice always in excess of 60 registered students, and teach on average 50 students per week, many of whom have been attending for many years now.  Lessons may be weekly, fortnightly or monthly or ad hoc to suit the individual tuition and budgetary needs.

Several students think it worthwhile to travel great distances for their lessons as they cannot find exactly what they are looking for closer to home. (from as far away
as Nottingham, Lincoln, Newmarket Peterborough and Ely amongst many
other places)

Adult students can also enjoy a cup of freshly ground coffee, or quality teas if they wish.

So if you are looking for top quality, fully qualified professional tuition then please read the following pages for more detailed information on the options available.

BEWARE - The music teaching business is largely unregulated and anyone can
advertise themselves as a 'teacher'  A simple card advert in a local shop is all
it takes for anyone to call themselves a music teacher with minimal experience
and no qualification at all.  More worryingly, a CRB check is NOT compulsory for
home teaching under present law.

I would stress that most of these adverts are offered by very safe and good people sharing their hobby and that is definitely to be encouraged.  However some are not, and are more concerned with taking your money rather than your education.  Ask about qualifications and experience and apply due dilligence before  engaging a non-regulated or unqualified teacher.  Fees for unqualified teachers should be  correspondingly lower than those set by professional organisations.

I always allow parents to sit in on lessons, if you choose another teacher
always ask to sit in on children's lessons if you are in any doubt at all.
